Compromised vision caused by eye injuries or disease, can be enhanced by using the proper tool for
the task at hand. Our paraoptometric team understands the features and functions of these tools and
can demonstrate the use of products offered ranging from a simple hand magnifier to a closed circuit
TV system.
We understand the loss of good vision can be devastating and are committed to help those with
low vision maintain as much independence as possible. We offer recommendations based on specific
needs and service in obtaining selected products.
Vision correction by LASIK is not for everyone. Our knowledge of the benefits and limitations of
this procedure will be shared with you and will help determine if LASIK is the right treatment for you.
If you are a good candidate and interested in laser vision correction, we will guide you through the
whole process from choosing the best surgeon, procedure, and unsurpassed post-op care including monitoring
your eyes and adjusting any medication needed for the best results possible.
Procedure and recovery process:
A flap is surgically cut into the cornea and gently folded back. An Excimer Laser is used to flatten the
cornea much like a contact lens corrects vision by forming a new shape on the cornea. The flap is then
replaced and becomes a natural bandage for the incision.
The healing process is quick and discomfort is minimal. People often say they did not feel anything and
could see well the very first day. Most people have improved vision in 24 to 48 hours, however each
individual will heal at a different rate and vision often continues to improve for weeks or even months
after the procedure.
State of the art microscopes allow us to examine the front surface of the eye and facial areas around
the eye for infection or injury. Once the area has been thoroughly examined, a member of our caring
team will explain the injury or infection and a treatment plan will be recommended. Treatments may
include medication and/or supportive care and follow up visits so we can monitor the progress of recovery.

Dry eyes include symptoms such as scratchy eye, burning, mild redness, and a gritty feeling.
Oral medications, reading, computer tasks, and dry environments may aggravate marginally dry eyes.
Our team of specialists will use dyes to observe tear patterns, will evaluate the amount of tears on
the front of the eye, and will carefully review the symptoms to diagnose dry eyes. A treatment
plan will be recommended that may include artificial tears, eye drops, or punctual plugs inserted
into the tear drainage canals. We are prepared to care for any specific need.

Cataracts
The natural lens in the eye gradually becomes less clear as we get older. Opacities can develop in the lens
causing the lens to get hazy and impair vision. We can diagnose cataracts, but more importantly we can
manage cataract care including the recommendation of cataract surgery if needed. We will guide you
through the entire process with our cataract specialist partners and continue with managing your recovery
process.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma gradually destroys the optic nerve tissue in the back of the eye. The greatest danger of
glaucoma is that the disease is painless without obvious symptoms until significant damage occurs.
The most common cause is from pressure being too high on the inside of the eye, however vascular disease
and other diseases can also cause glaucoma. Our standard examination includes testing for glaucoma by
checking the pressure of the eye, screening for peripheral vision defects, and analyzing the appearance
of the optic nerve. Medications are typically prescribed to lower the eye pressure if diagnosed with
Glaucoma. Alternative options include laser treatments and eye surgery for more advanced glaucoma.
Diabetes
Diabetes can stimulate the growth of new blood vessels in the back of the eye, which will ultimately
leak and damage the retina. If discovered early, laser treatments can slow the progression of retinal
eye disease by destroying these vessels. A dilated retinal examination is recommended each year for
everyone with diabetes. Our instruments are the most technologically advanced and very sensitive to
changes in the back of the eye. And if we detect advancing diabetic eye disease that needs further
evaluation, we will refer you to a board certified retinal specialist for further consultation and/or treatment.
